About Detran

Detran (State Traffic Department) is part of the SNT (National Traffic System) and is responsible in the state for all traffic activities established by the CTB (Brazilian Traffic Code) and its own regulations.

Detran is responsible for providing traffic education, as well as planning, executing, coordinating and controlling actions related to driver licensing, documentation and vehicle services.

In addition, the agency carries out traffic statistics and manages the assessment and collection of fines.

Detran's objective is to carry out all these activities with quality, efficiency and transparency, contributing to the defense of life and the population.

 Detran Vehicle Auction

Before the vehicle goes to auction, the owner is notified and has a deadline to recover the asset. Notification is made through a notice published in the Official State Gazette, on the Detran portal. After the legal deadline has passed and there is no response from the owner, the vehicle is listed for auction.

Detran is only responsible for vehicles repossessed by the Military Police, in urban perimeters, for infractions that the State is responsible for monitoring and intervening. Among them: split, dangerous maneuver, lack of licensing, vehicle without a license plate or with an illegible license plate.

Vehicles repossessed for illegal parking, for example, are the responsibility of city halls. Those resumed on roads are the responsibility of bodies that operate on highways, such as the DER (Department of Highways) and the PRF (Federal Highway Police).

Vehicles removed for involvement in crimes are entirely the responsibility of the SSP (Public Security Secretariat). And finally, those with pending legal issues are the responsibility of the Judiciary.

Who can participate in the Detran Auction

Individuals over the age of 18 can participate in the Detran Auction. Only vehicles with the right to documentation can be purchased.

Payment must be made in cash only. After the auction, the debts are written off and the buyer must transfer the vehicle into their name, and new documentation will be issued for the vehicle.

About vehicle debt

The amounts collected at auction are used to pay fines, taxes and other vehicle expenses.

If the sale value is greater than the existing debts, the excess amount will be returned to the previous owner. Otherwise, if the sale value is not sufficient, the remaining debt will be removed from the vehicle's license plate and charged to the former owner through the active debt registration.
